Home-buyer guide
A sewer scope can reveal a costly blind spot.
The buried lateral is outside the view of a normal visual home inspection. A camera inspection can document visible conditions before a purchase, but it cannot guarantee future performance.
Reasons buyers request a scope
- The home or sewer line is older.
- Large trees or roots are near the lateral path.
- The property has a history of backups or slow drainage.
- The line material, route, or connection is unknown.
- A prior report recommended follow-up.
A scope may show roots, offsets, cracks, standing water, obstructions, or an incomplete camera run. The person interpreting those images and the written limitations matter as much as the recording.
An active backup is not the normal pre-purchase transaction modeled by this site. It may require cleaning and diagnostic plumbing before a usable camera inspection.
